Type II Diabetes Study

We are investigating the potential effects of consuming a probiotic on haemoglobin A1c levels (your long-term indicator of glucose control) in people diagnosed with Type II Diabetes.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Be aged 18-75
  • Have a BMI between 18.5-45.0
  • Have Type II Diabetes treated with:
  • - Exercise + Diet OR
  • - Exercise + Diet + Metformin

  • Consuming the probiotics, twice daily, for 12 weeks
  • Attend our clinic 7 times
  • Wear a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) for 12 weeks
  • Perform a Standardised Tolerance Test (STT)

Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) is a method to track glucose levels throughout the day and night. The CGM contains a small sensor wire that is places just under the skin to measure your glucose. It stores these readings, which can then be transferred wirelessly to a remote device.

The test involves inserting a cannula, which is a a thin tube that allows for a number of blood draws without the need to insert additional needles each time.
There will be 3 blood draws over the course of 2 hours for the test, taking a total of 25.5mLs of blood. One blood draw before you consume the probiotic, with other draws taken at 60 and 120 minutes after consumption
You will be cannulated on Visits 2-6

If you are unsure of your BMI, please check it using the below link. It must be between 18.5-45.0 for you to be eligible for this study
